We're fast approaching the end of our 3rd quarter and I am bracing myself for testing all.week.long. Although we use a scripted reading curriculum that is completely differentiated and assesses each student as they complete each "unit," we have to give a reading test on top of math, science and social studies tests. Yes, you read that correctly. Science and social studies. That is on top of the biweekly assessments we have to give for all of those subjects. Also, we score writing on the Developmental Writing Continuum monthly (this I agree with!). Does anyone else have to assess kiddos in every subject? How do you manage it? It is so.much.paperwork. I feel awful about subjecting my kiddos to hours upon hours of assessment...how do I deal?

My word that is a lot of assessing! I feel like we do a lot too but not that much. We do not really have to assess science or social studies in kinder or first grade (I teach first). It's more of a participation grade. I know how much it bogs you down though. Sorry!
ReplyDeleteThose spacermen are super cute!
I know how you feel! 3rd quarter we assess all but one standard on our Standards Based report card (solving subtraction problems with manipulatives). I feel like the only thing I do is assess kiddos.
